Dr. Wiest is a Licensed Psychologist specializing in school neuropsychology, family and couple’s therapy, and individual therapy.  He is recognized as an expert in school neuropsychology and is a clinician, researcher, and professor emeritus in this field.  Additionally, Dr. Wiest provides counseling and psychotherapy  from a systems approach with families as well as couples.  Finally, Dr. Wiest provides individual therapy utilizing empirically based approaches to change.  Dr Wiest maintains a practice, over 20 years, in the city of Orange, with multidisciplinary group of independent practitioners.

What is Board Certification?
Board Certification is an advanced level of training that practioners receive in their specialized field. Board certification indicates that an individual is at the highest level of recognition as a professional in his or her field. A licensed educational psychologist is a master’s level professional who has basic skills   in being able to administer tests and evaluations. A clinical psychologist specializing in school psychology and school neuropsychology, is an advanced level of expertise which emphasizes the structure and function of the brain as it relates to learning, behavior and mental health. Thus, Dr Wiest is Board Certified in two areas, School Psychology and School Neuropsychology.

Education and Clinical Training

- Dr. Wiest received his PHD from Claremont Graduate University, with previous degrees from California State University, Northridge and Concordia University, all with honors.  Originally trained as an educator, he subsequently cross trained in school counseling, clinical counseling,   school psychology, and school neuropsychology.  Clinical positions in school settings (public and parochial) included   teacher, counselor, head of counseling, and school psychologist.  Clinical expertise outside of school systems has been focused on private practice in the city of Orange for the past 21 years.

Teaching, Research and Consultation

Dr. Wiest is Professor Emeritus in School Psychology at California State University, San Bernardino.  Credited with creating the program in school psychology 20 years ago, the CSUSB program has developed a reputation as one of the stronger training programs in the Southern California area.  As a researcher, Dr. Wiest distinguished himself by publishing papers in motivation, attachment, and achievement for youngsters in special education and regular education from elementary through high school.  Additionally, his new research has centered on the remediation of memory and attention deficits through cognitive training with computers. Moreover, Dr. Wiest regularly provides consultation to schools, public and private, related to motivation, cognitive training, and family systems.
